Norris is a national historic city located in Anderson County. It’s been touted as a planned community and a model town, but to local folks who call it home it’s simply a woodland oasis from busier nearby areas such as Halls and Clinton.

Norris has the charm of a Mayberry-type community. It’s a place where everybody knows everyone and the local newspaper, The Norris Bulletin, chronicles small town life. Community groups include the Bits ‘N Pieces Quilt Guild, which includes some nationally well known members among the quilting scene, the Lions Club, and the Norris Woman’s club.

Town center features a community library, the Norris Museum, post office, and Archer’s Food Service — known locally for its large selection of craft and imported beer. Town center is also a gathering place for the city’s many festivities throughout the year, such as the July 4th celebration known as the Annual Norris Day Celebration, which is put on by the Lion’s Club.

Residents enjoy art, culture and outdoor activities. Norris boasts its own non-profit community theater, the Norris Little Theatre. The theatre is built around “neighbors entertaining neighbors” and puts on musicals and stage plays. They even run a Children’s Theatre Program in the summer.

Music lovers can catch the Tennessee Jamboree live country music show and dancing every Friday night at the Norris Community Center.

The Museum of Appalachia features a great wealth of local history, great outdoor views and offers some comfort food daily in its tidy little restaurant. Nearby is also the area’s oldest artisan groups, which runs the Appalachian Arts Craft Center.

Norris Lake and Norris Dam State Park offer outdoor recreation such as boating, trout fishing, swimming and camping.  Along the 809 miles of shoreline you can enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and various types of wildlife sightings. There are secluded coves, cliffs, beaches and caves to explore. The Norris Watershed has numerous miles of trails open to the public.
