Until 1962 Fountain City, Tennessee was the largest unincorporated city in the United States with a population of approximately 30,000.  Upon annexation into the City of Knoxville, the suburb maintained its own identity with immense community pride.  It remains a desirable place to work and to live. In fact, Fountain City was voted the best suburban community in Tennessee in 1986 by People magazine.

The main road in Fountain City is Broadway, a section of U.S. Highway 441 that connects Fountain City to Halls to the north and downtown Knoxville to the south. Fountain City Lake— commonly called the “Duck Pond”— remains one of Fountain City’s most prominent features.

Other parks include Fountain City Park, located on the site of the old Fountain Head Campground, which consists of 12 acres maintained by the Lion’s Club featuring a playground and connection to a greenway trail. The Fountain City Ball Park was built in 1954, and the Fountain City Art Center was built originally as a library in 1964. The Center, adjacent to the playground, has a diverse talent pool of approximately 400 artists that offer classes and events throughout the year.

The “downtown” area of Hotel Ave. offers some tasty spots to cool your heels after a day in the park, art center or to grab a picnic before heading to the duck pond. Check out Creamery Park Grille, Scrumps Cupcakes, or Litton’s Market Restaurant.

Fountain City Town Hall, a non-profit community group, was founded with the mission to serve, protect, and assist in the development of the neighborhood. The Town Hall takes a proactve roll in working with the Knoxville City Council and the Metropolitan Planning Commission to help keep the unique vibe of the area alive today.
